Domestic suppliers are busy with China Unicom’s bid for CDMA equipment.
China Unicom, which gave order for CDMA equipment equivalent to 1.5 billion USD, recently decided to give order for CDMA 2000 1x equipment and opened bid for this equipment in 31 districts.
The size of order is confused. However, the size is expected to be similar to one of last year. Samsung Electronics, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks, Motorola and Ericsson, which supplied equipment to China Unicom, and LG Electronics, Hyundai Syscomm, etc., which want to newly get China Unicom’s order, are desperately work on China Unicom’s bid.
In addition, bid for repeater is being visualized in some districts, and domestic repeater suppliers are preparing for this bid.
Samsung Electronics acquired the first bid and supplied equipment equivalent to 120 million USD or more. Samsung Electronics will probably supply additional equipment to existing 4 districts and trying to provide another 10 districts with its equipment.
Since Samsung Electronics got supply contract with China Unicom last year, it expects to obtain additional order from China Unicom and plans for increasing quantity of its equipment.
LG Electronics and Hyundai Syscomm, which lost the first bid, are competing for the second bid with help from Chinese companies. Especially, LG Electronics cooperates with not only Chinese companies but also Ericsson, which got order from China Unicom in the first bid.
Bid for base station are underway speedily and bid for repeater is ready. Totally 100 million USD, 9 thousand units or more bidding is expected. In Anhwee districts, 200 units or more bidding is opened and commercial proposal was sent to suppliers. In Gwangdung districts, thousand units or more bidding is ready.
So, Withus, Youngwoo Telecom, JAS, Sourcetel, etc., which provided Chinese market with repeater in the first bid are actively work on Chinese market.
Datang Electronics (telecom equipment supplier in China) will visit Korea and find its partnership this week. Datang supplying repeater to China Unicom in Stzwan districts is going to visit Sourcetel and have a meeting.
This China Unicom’s bid is expected to be fiercer than ever since existing suppliers and new suppliers compete for this bid. Repeater suppliers already set their price lower to secure the partnership in China. Some overheating incurs worries.
